Not So Fast: Russia’s Latest Threat To Leave ISS Catches U.S. ‘Off Guard’

(PARABNORMAL NEWS) — After much speculation, Russia said this week they were leaving the International Space Station, undocking for a final time in 2024.

Moscow’s announcement caught the State Department off guard.

“I understand that we were taken by surprise by the public statement that went out.  I am not aware that discussions on this front have started yet, but would need to refer you to NASA for that,” said spokesman Ned Price.

But not so fast.  Just days later came reports that Russia will stay until its own space station is up and running, which is planned as early as 2028.  Russia has hinted at doing so for several years and made threats to pull out earlier this year in response to being sanctioned for invading Ukraine.

The space station is designed in a way that makes each nation dependent on each other.

Congress this week approved an extension to operate the ISS through 2030, if the others partners: Japan, Europe and Canada agree.
